There could be different ways of capturing the L & T endeavors of the Department, which has a history of 50 years. We use the evolvement of the last decade as a watershed, as the 12/13 academic year also witnessed a change of the curriculum from three years to four years. The curriculum change marked the determination of the University Management in pouring in more resources into the L & T domain, and thus providing the background for equipping staff with more skills and knowledge to face a fast-paced social environment.
‘Departmental Best Teaching Awards’ since 2012 sends out a strong departmental message that meaningful efforts in the L & T Domain would be recognized. With increasing resources, the establishment of the ‘Teaching Café’ since 15/16 academic year and the ‘Departmental Learning and Teaching Grant’ [DLTG] since 16/17 academic year become two strong boosters to the grooming of L & T try-outs, in terms of pedagogical enhancement, blended learning attempts, and Learning Management System review, as seen not only from the project titles of the grant, but also from the increasing number of education research grants achieved beyond department level in the past few years, which can be found in the ‘Beyond Department Funding Grants’. The ‘One-Stop Shop’ [OSS] website, a product from a group of current and retired staff, students and alumni of APSS, has opened a new horizon of how to make best use of digital technologies and educational concepts accumulated in various L & T settings for achieving a teaching-learning-serving the community endeavor. That the entire platform just used 20 days to set up, that it has a co-creative and co-owned nature enabled by the best utilization of digital technologies, and that it has an encouraging reach out and social impact, have ended up with encouraging insights for new attempts in bringing L & T endeavors also to the community.
