June 23, 2022Incorporate blended learning pedagogy in Service-Learning subject
In view of the strategic plan of PolyU, the University envisages to change the existing mode of three-credit subjects from 3-hour contact time in face-to-face mode to blended mode comprises of both e-learning and face-to-face modes. The benefits of incorporating e-environment in Service-Learning subjects are cost-effective, time saving, and flexible for students to learn according to their own schedules during the days (Rasheed et al., 2020). Moreover, applying blended learning in Service-Learning subjects can enhance students’ motivation and effectiveness in learning, and promote leaner autonomy (Castro-Rodríguez et al., 2021). However, as Faulconer (2021) commented, the research on eService Learning is under researched.
This proposal aims to incorporate blended learning pedagogy in the subject, APSS2S09S in view of the response to the University’s strategic plan, benefits from blended learning pedagogy, and the need to continue the education research on eService Learning as a new trend in Service Learning pedagogy research. Specifically, there are three types of deliverables across the three lectures and five workshops:
1. Production of videos and voice-over PPT slides to introduce the concepts.
2. Production of online activities such as case scenarios and reflection to enhance the deep learning of students.
3. Production of step-by-step online guide for proposal and session plan writings.
