June 22, 2022Development of an Online Project on Whole-person Development in University Students
It is the expectation of the University Grants Committee that universities should promote whole-person development in university students. In particular, it is important to educate students to be law-abiding responsible citizens by reinforcing education on the Constitution, Basic Law and the Hong Kong National Security Law (NSL). For students attending the 4-year undergraduate program, we provide such education via the subjects on leadership education. We have developed a 3-hour lecture on law abidance leadership (plus 7 hours of self-study) covering law abidance leadership, brief history of modern China, the Constitution, Basic Law and NSL which has been implemented since Semester 1 of 2021/22 academic year.
For undergraduate students who are not required to take the Leadership subject (such as Senior Year and advanced standing students), they are required to take a 3-hour online module mirroring the content of the 3-hour face-to-face law abidance leadership lecture. For postgraduate students, another specially designed 3-hour e-learning module on “Understanding China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, P.R.C.” will be developed. The content includes a brief history of modern China, restoration of Hong Kong to P.R.C. in 1997, Basic Law, the concept of national security, and the Hong Kong National Security Law.
